Since February 2016, the entire city of Aachen is the low emission zone. Only cars labelled with a sticker are allowed to enter the area. The "Outter Ring" is not included. In order to reach the city center in an alternative way, the P+R system is available.

Other exemptions
- the following types are in general exempted from the LEZ: oldtimers, military vehicles, motorcycles, ambulance and emergency vehicles, work machines, vehicles driven by/or carrying disabled persons
notes:
- all vehicles (including EV, gas, hydrogen or foreign) entering the LEZ need to have a visible sticker
- the penalty for enetring a LEZ without a sticker is €80 + an administrative fee around €25
- the common framework for the german LEZs is regulated by the national laws 35. BImSchV and 39. BImSchV
- also older diesel vehicles can obtain the green sticker by installing the certificated retrofit kit
